Feature modules

Backbone has six feature modules. An organisation enables the ones it needs; a user's role decides which of the enabled modules they can use.

  • Projects — plan work, track progress, and see health.
  • Time Tracking — log hours against projects and clients.
  • Resource Planning — allocate people and see capacity.
  • Sales — track the pipeline from lead to signed deal.
  • Expenses — submit, approve, and reimburse expenses.
  • Leave — request and approve time off.

Module and role gating

Effective access to any module is: module enabled AND role allows it. Both conditions have to hold. Turning on a module doesn't automatically expose it to every role, and a role that includes a module doesn't help if the organisation hasn't enabled it.

Where modules connect

Modules aren't siloed. A won deal in Sales can become a Project. Approved Leave shows up in Resource Planning's capacity view. Time entries and Expenses both roll up into a project's actual cost. Turning on more than one module is where Backbone starts to save the reconciliation work that separate tools create.
